New Direction..

I had two clients in the past weeks, handing in their resignation without having another job to go to. I am wondering if this is a pattern out there. Their situations are different, yet they both appear calm, relaxed and ready for some time out.

When we have so much stress and overwhelm, this can be a precusor for 'shut down' and getting more 'me' time. After all many young people in today's working world are very devoted and applied and if they are not seeing results and or/promotions, they get disillusioned and disappointed with their employer and thus move on. It is that simple.

What I see as the difference between Gen X and Gen Y (these 2 clients are Gen Y) is confidence levels. These Gen Y, know full well another opportunity is around the corner and they want to ensure it is the right job, they are not desperate for the next paycheck as they have funds saved. They want to be valued and be in alignment with their next employer.

Whereas Gen X, would wait it out until they found another job to go to, so they are still making money and not have so much disruption, I base this on my experience and what I have seen happen in my generation. We tend to play it safe and want to minimise the risk.

However we do it, we seek new directions and new beginnings, and it is exciting for both of them to leave something certain to something new and challenging, whatever that will be!!

This is very true. It's funny because I actually just studied this in one of my college classes not even a week ago. Businesses are having to adapt to Gen Y and change the way they retain employees because the turnover rate is climbing. Times have changed since the days of people staying at one job their entire life. I myself have had over a dozen jobs. Nowadays people are no longer content with staying at one job. They want to go where there is the most potential growth and where their talents can be best utilized.

I can relate to what you are saying. I'm 37 yrs old and for the first time in my life I am free not to worry about a job. I know tomorrow if I lost my job or quit that I would survive and find work with out a problem. It is a good feeling to be at that point your life! Keep up the good work!
